I'm wondering what are some good online multiplayer games that you can play on Mac (and that are not deserted). The only one that comes to my mind is Driver: San Francisco. Also, note that I'm looking for games where you are actually in control of something (person, vehicle, whatever).

I've seen some multiplayer games in the App Store that were not 'direct'. I'm not sure how to explain, but basically it was this game with Apes and you had to push buttons and then they'd do random stuff. I don't mind games like Uno however, love playing this on the iPhone. Other games were 'online' too, but only with leaderboards and such things. I've often seen lists about online multiplayer games for Mac, but weirdly enough, Driver: San Francisco was never listed. That tells me I can't take those lists seriously and there's probably more games that aren't featured in there. So, if anyone knows.

Anything really, as long as it's fun. Some of my favourites would be Driver: San Francisco (Mac), Doodle Jump (iPhone) or UNO (iPhone) which are all three completely different. What's important to me, however, is that it's actually a real-time online game. There's a good game out there called Far Out Racing, basically you have a map, you place coins, and you have to collect these coins with a car. You can place them anywhere and you can make it really hard to reach the coins. Then, players from all around the world play your map and have to get those coins.

The one who beats the record wins money I believe, which he can invest in faster vehicles or objects/tools to make more complex maps. The point is, that this would be an online game that isn't in real time.

Although it was plenty of fun (well, you could even see other players at some point -> the ghost car, driving down your map haha). I was sure there would be some games that aren't pushed that much in the medias (like Driver: San Francisco), but which are still 'high quality'.

Dropbox app for mac hard drive space. Hell sometimes I wish there was games like Doodle Jump or Temple Run (not really online) on the Mac. Where does the Mac don't have such big 'hit' games? It would be just as fun to play them on the Mac. Click to expand. All the games I've mentioned are 'hits' in the sense that they have substantial player bases, at least on the PC side of things.

More often than not, games will not see a OS X release until months, sometimes years after their Windows counterparts. Blizzard titles, including Starcraft 2, World of Warcraft, and Diablo III all are multiplayer and all are/were available for the Mac at launch. Borderlands and Borderlands 2 took a couple months to come out for the Mac, and they're both solid co-op shooters.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and 3 have been out for years and were only ported to the Mac in the last couple weeks. Since you're being so vague, the only thing I can suggest is to try out the games for yourself.

Some are free to play. Most of the others will get discounted on Steam at least a few times a year, sometimes as much as 75-80%. For ones that don't typically go on sale, head over to Youtube and check out gameplay footage to see if it's something that might interest you. Click to expand. There are actually quite a few multiplayer FPS for Mac. Here's more than a few active ones. Keep in mind that almost all of these are on steam. On Steam First of all, if you didn't know already, is the biggest distributor of games on PC, Mac, and Linux. It's basically Xbox Live or PlayStation Network, though free, has way more deals (Summer sale FTW, free weekends where certain games are free to download and play for a limited time, and are also on sale), has a mod hosting service, and has over 65 million users (I think it hit 70 million recently.) If you want to game on PC, Mac, or Linux, you need Steam.
