Hi there I am using the latest VLC 0.7.1a on Mac OS10.3.3 on my G4 Powerbook, and I have one mystery that i really want to clarify. Samsung tv control from pc. I have my Divx videos (upto 1Mbps) stored in my Windows PC, and I usually watch them using SMB protocol on my PowerBook via Airport (802.11b) 11Mbps wireless LAN connection. (the network drives act just like an external HDD).

Os x vlc

However, using VLC, i get very choppy playback with a pause (frame loss) every 2 seconds or so. (If i increase the VLC buffer really high, it gets better but still pauses every 3 seconds or so.) The videos play fine if i copy them beforehand onto local HDD. When i open the file as 'Treat as pipe', the audio plays fine but the video somehow becomes doubled in speed. The strange thing is, these videos play fine using Quicktime Player or 'Preview' on Finder, which suggests that the line bandwidth is sufficient. (i can even play 2 videos (both 1Mbps) simultaneously using Quicktime player) I doubt it is a buffering issue, since both Quicktime player and Finder don't take too much time caching the video data. (shorter than VLC) Is there any explanation or solution so that i can view these files using VLC?

(i can't set up a streaming server since the Windows PC belongs to someone else.) Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
