Round Tripping is a process where you need to convert your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac file to a QuickBooks Desktop for windows file or vice versa. The payroll data that you enter will be lost when the file is converted back to QuickBooks for Mac since it does not have internal payroll. • You cannot round trip to QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions (QBES) because QBES cannot produce a QuickBooks Desktop for Mac backup. • Some data may or may not be converted due to lack of features in QuickBooks for Mac compared to QuickBooks for Windows. Prepare your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac file for conversion Here are some file preparation steps for your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac file to ensure the process goes smoothly: • • Check for any special characters in the file name and company name, such as!@#$%^&*. If there are any, rename the file to remove the special characters. Note: Company name is under QuickBooks menu > Preferences > My Company.
• Check for any memos with names longer than 50 characters or containing special characters such as!@#$%^&*. • Go to Reports menu, then select Custom Transaction Detail Report. • In Modify Report window, select Dates drop-down, then choose All. • Under Columns, select Memo, then select OK to run the report. • Remove the memos with more than 50 characters/special characters from their corresponding transaction. • Delete all memorized transactions and memorized reports.

Convert your Mac company file to a Windows file • Open the company file in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. • Create a copy of your company file for Windows. • Go to the File menu then select Utilities > Export > To QuickBooks for Windows. • In the Save As field, type a name for the file. For the Where field, select Desktop then Save.
