So, after looking at what I really use the most at work and home, I came up with a short list: Notes, icloud drive, various small appstore apps, telnet, ssh, serial-usb cable and driver, channalizer or Office inSSider. I made a boot USB with 10.11.6 yesterday and wiped my mac. SimpleNote replaces Notes and Google Drive replaces iCloud drive. The wifi problems have gone and the first machine (2013 MacBook Air) is now quiet, snappy and purring along.
