Please check the status of the drive in Device Manager. Follow the steps to open Device Manager. Press Windows key + X. Click Device Manager. You may refer to the link to check the compatibility of Seagate backup plus with Windows 8. I would suggest you to contact Seagate support as you are not even able to open the Seagate dashboard.
